THE VICTORY OF THE PHILIPPINES
Blood, sweat, and tears have been sacrificed and spread
throughout the historic country of the Philippines. The lands and seas we are
crossing once became a place filled with heroic thoughts and actions. Before,
Filipinos were silenced as the merciless hands of colonizers covered their
mouths. But, that didn’t stop the people of the Philippines to demand and fight
what is right in the first place, claiming freedom and being independent.
August 23, 1896. After more than 300 years in the hands
of Spain, Filipinos started a revolution to fight the manipulative and
aggressive ruling. Revolutionary armies and organizations did everything they
could in order to achieve their goal. Galloons of sweat spilled throughout the
battlefield, blood after blood, cries after cries, and dead bodies over dead
bodies. Heroes have sacrificed their lives to save more lives. After a bloody
revolution, the proclamation of sovereignty took place. June 12, 1898.
Independence day was declared as the Philippine Flag was raised in the house of
first Philippine president Emilio Aguinaldo in Cavite while sounding the
national anthem, Marcha Filipina Magdalo, now known as Lupang Hinirang.
We owe our independence now to those brave heroes who fought
for it. Philippines
established its own government that is for Filipinos. We
cannot just ignore the burning passion of our ancestors longing for freedom.
Until now, we commemorate them as we also celebrate our Independence Day as the
most significant event in our country’s history. The independence and freedom
we are tasting now is the greatest victory we have achieved. Let’s not forget
the sacrifices our heroes have made: blood, sweat, and tears. They fulfilled the last line of our national anthem, “Ang mamatay nang
dahil sa’yo”
