STILL, CHRISTMAS IN OUR HEARTS

Pandemic really affected everything. From jobs and works, then education. Now, even the celebration of different occasions. Occasions that became part of yearly tradition not just in a particular country but in the whole world. One of it is the most awaited season; the Christmas Season. The last, happiest, and even the most important occasion. The once merry and joyful celebration changed. Celebrating Christmas didn’t stopped, but it was celebrated differently.

A short background. This time of the year is the season of love, care, and share. In Christianity, Roman Catholic and Protestants in particular, they celebrate Christmas in commemorating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah. This season is also the time when the legendary figure, Santa Claus who’s popular to kids and the one who’s giving gifts to everybody, is everywhere. It is the season of Christmas trees, lights, and different and colorful parols (stars).

Celebrating Christmas in the middle of health crisis is different. Before, lots of people roam around and take selfies to giant Christmas trees, decors, and even the statues of Santa Claus. People are free to do caroling house to house and it a lovely and fun thing to do. There are also Christmas parties in schools, offices, and communities where they have a program. It is the time when the people exchange gifts. This joyful day also serves as a reunion. Families and friends have gatherings at Christmas Eve in preparation for Christmas Day and the table is full of different delicious foods.

Most of those has changed and some are not even allowed at all due to strict protocols. Now, fewer people or not even a single person is allowed outside to take selfies or caroling. No Christmas parties and programs in public due to lockdown and most establishments were closed. A lovely gathering that supposed to be a reunion became less happy because some members of the family and friends can’t attend.

Despite all that, the essence of Christmas didn’t vanished. Homes and public places were still decorated with Christmas trees, lights, and colorful parols. Christmas songs are still being played. Although public parties aren’t allowed, people always think of ways. Some do parties inside their own homes, some do it virtually. Christmas in the middle of the pandemic is expressed differently. It may be less fun but it doesn’t always have to be. Remember that Christmas is the time for love, care, and share. What’s important is that we don’t forget this season and Christmas is still in our hearts.

  2. Yes! Christmas should always be filled with love and care despite the disaster. Being in a pandemic shouldn't affect how we celebrate these special holidays.
