FATHER’S DAY: THE PILLAR WITHSTANDING EVERY STORM

Every home needs a strong pillar in order to stand. But, not every pillar is concrete. Mostly, they are breathing. They are living. They work in order for the whole family to live. They serve as the support and protection. Who are they? The man of the family; Adam. The head; the father.

Nine months of working hard in order to sustain the life of a woman carrying the future in her womb. Eighteen years of service or more just to raise a successful person. A man with unconditional love same as a woman raises a child. He may not be as expressive as the woman but his love and care are as equal as to the woman. He goes out every day, enduring the heat of the sun. He is out there sitting in front of a desk full of papers he cannot leave. He is out there trying every work just to earn money to maintain the foundation they built together with the woman. There are also fathers who are single parents and are taking both the responsibilities of being the caretaker and the breadwinner of the family. And of course, foster fathers. They may not be biological but still do what they can to take care, love, and sustain the family. Every father, even with different faces, deserves recognition. They may not be the best, but they were still trying to do what they need to do in order to become favorable.

The celebration of father’s day is just proof that fathers are special and must be recognized. Although there are many faces of a father, they cannot be changed. They are our strength, for they are strong to be the “haligi ng tahanan”. They are our shield, since they can withstand every storm. The first man who carried us and cried with joy. The first man who loved and still loves us. Our precious. Our treasures. Our Fathers.
